Elder Benefit Specialist

An Elder Benefit Specialist (EBS) is trained in the areas of benefit and entitlement programs as well as other issues.  The Greater Wisconsin Agency on Aging Resources (GWAAR) in Madison, Wisconsin provides in-depth, on-going training and assistance.

 

An Elder Benefit Specialist helps those 60 years & older:

  • Having problems securing a public or private benefit.
  • Wanting to know more about a public or private benefit.
  • Needing help organizing the paperwork that comes with applying for benefits.
  • Denied a benefit they think they are entitled to receive.  

  

How can the EBS help?

  • Provide accurate and current information on benefits.
  • Suggest alternative actions to secure benefits or appeal denials of benefits.
  • Advocate on your behalf with other parties involved.
  • Explain what legal action or other possible solution is required.

     

What can an Elder Benefit Specialist help with?

  • Medicare
  • Medical Assistance (MA)
  • Low Income Subsidy Programs (QMB, SLMB, SLMB+)
  • Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSA)
  • SeniorCare and Medicare Part D
  • Foodshare (food stamps)

All files and correspondence are kept locked, and conversations with the Elder Benefit Specialist remain confidential.

  

What is the cost?

There is no charge for EBS services.
