As a private, non-profit aging unit, we will strive to assure that the community, county, and state are made aware of and respond to the needs of older persons reaching age 60 and beyond who experience financial, physical, psychological, or social limitations due to old age or illness. We will assure that appropriate services are developed and supported to meet these needs and that older persons have adequate access to these services. Being a large rural county, we rely and respect the ‘natural helping networks’ of older persons which provide informal support for a vast majority of elderly. We will work in the area of community development with churches, public groups, and schools to promote a realistic image of aging. We will encourage self sufficiency, family and community interdependence. MCES believes that older persons need to be given every opportunity to participate in the planning and development of their community-based long-term care needs and will encourage each persons involvement. As an aging unit we will continue to work overall to provide those services we can directly advocate for the development and funding of services not available and promote and respect the quality of life for older persons regardless of race, color, religion, sex, or nationality.
